CHAM Honors HDC as the 2026 Asset Management Organization of the Year.
HDC was recognized for its "long history of innovation in the asset management space," when the Consortium for Housing & Asset Management (CHAM) named HDC the 2026 Asset Management Organization of the Year in June.
“HDC's impact extends well beyond their walls to set an example for our entire field to follow,” CHAM wrote in its June 30 announcement on social media.
The award is a top honor for affordable housing asset management professionals, more than 750 of whom attended CHAM’s 2026 national conference—the largest in CHAM’s history—in Denver in June. The national professional association is a leading asset management resource hub and training center. CHAM Executive Director Seth Leonard presented the award to HDC Director of Asset Management Kimberly Taylor and Senior Asset Management Project Manager Liz Winchester at the conference.
“HDC stepped up, becoming an advocate for owners and managers navigating difficult financial dynamics in their existing portfolios.”
HDC stepped up as a strong policy voice and “advocate for owners and managers navigating difficult financial dynamics in their existing portfolios,” CHAM’s announcement emphasized—referring in part to HDC’s work shaping the Resources for Asset Management and Property Support (RAMPS) program. The new $3.3 million statewide funding program, in process of being designed and implemented by HDC at the direction of the Oregon legislature under contract with Oregon Housing and Community Services, will provide resources to improve property health and resident well-being in Oregon’s affordable housing.
CHAM’s announcement noted that HDC’s commitment to providing supplemental capacity and expertise to nonprofits that are too small to hire their own asset management staff is especially inspiring, adding, “When organizations fully commit to the principles of asset management, it elevates their own work.”
Along with providing affordable housing development services, delivering asset management support and training has been a focus of HDC’s organizational mission for more than twenty years.
“This award reflects the vision and impact of HDC’s past and present staff and board leaders,” HDC Executive Director Traci Manning said. “HDC is committed to building the asset management our industry needs to sustain affordable housing for generations to come.”
CHAM and HDC have been partners in asset management capacity building since HDC started providing asset management services. CHAM helped HDC launch its first statewide asset management training program in 2010, and HDC’s Kimberly Taylor has been supporting CHAM to deliver its online AMS+ training program to West Coast practitioners since 2023.
“We all know it’s a challenging time for affordable housing operations. But it’s also an auspicious and hopeful time for asset management,” Taylor said in her acceptance remarks. “I see our community coming together to build knowledge, connections, infrastructure, and shared vision to keep our affordable housing portfolios strong and sustainable. That’s what this award represents to me: the future we’re all building together.”
